You’ll travel over the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, visit the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, and explore Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa. The route includes palm-filled oases like Skoura, the rose-filled valleys of El Kelaa M’Gouna, and the dramatic rock formations of Dades and Todra Gorges. You’ll ride camels into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga, enjoy sunset views, traditional Berber dinners, and overnight stays in nomadic desert camps under the stars. The tour also includes visits to the Gnawa village of Khamlia, a local nomad family, fossil museums in Erfoud, and the colorful souks of Rissani. Returning through the lush Ziz Valley, cedar forests of Azrou, and mountain towns like Midelt and Ifrane, this experience blends nature, culture, and hospitality. With private transportation, knowledgeable guides, and handpicked accommodations, this tour is perfect for those who want to explore the true soul of Morocco in comfort and depth.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH TO THE DADES VALLEY VIA AIT BENHADDOU KASABAH AND OURZAZATTE

Your private driver will pick you up in the morning from your accommodation in Marrakech to begin an unforgettable journey across the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, Morocco’s highest road at an altitude of 2,260 meters. Along the way, you’ll enjoy multiple stops for photos, coffee, or fresh-squeezed orange juice while taking in the changing mountain scenery and remote Berber villages nestled into the hillsides. By early afternoon, you’ll reach the legendary Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortified village, with its cluster of ancient earthen Kasbahs, was once a vital stop for trans-Saharan caravans and has since served as a backdrop for over 20 international films, including Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy.

After exploring Aït Benhaddou and enjoying lunch nearby, the journey continues to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the Hollywood of Africa. Here, you may visit one of the famous film studios or a cinema museum, and explore the historic Taourirt Kasbah, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family. Your route then takes you to the fertile oasis of Skoura, known for its extensive palm groves and fortified Kasbahs. A highlight here is the visit to the beautifully preserved 17th-century Kasbah Amridil, formerly owned by one of the most influential families in the region. From Skoura, you’ll travel through El Kelaa M’Gouna, the capital of the Valley of Roses, where locals produce rosewater and cosmetic products (especially vibrant during the rose festival in spring). The road winds through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, a breathtaking corridor of ancient fortresses and small villages, before arriving in the dramatic Dades Gorges, where you'll enjoy dinner and spend the night in a traditional hotel.

DAY 2: DADES GORGES TO MERZOUGA

After breakfast, you’ll leave the Dades Valley and continue east toward the Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most dramatic natural canyons. Located approximately 64 kilometers from Dades, the gorge features towering rock walls over 300 meters high. You’ll have time for a short hike through the lush palm groves, observe rock climbers scaling the cliffs, and possibly encounter local nomads bringing their animals to drink from the spring or collecting water for daily use.

From Todra, the drive continues through Tinjdad, where you’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant offering regional Berber cuisine. Afterward, you’ll proceed to Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil workshops and museums—here, you can visit a fossil museum and learn about the area's prehistoric marine discoveries and stone craftsmanship. Continuing your route, you'll pass through Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite Dynasty, and home to a lively traditional souk where you may see stalls of spices, dates, pottery, and local crafts.

By late afternoon, you’ll reach Merzouga, gateway to the immense Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, you’ll meet your camel caravan and embark on a scenic sunset trek into the golden Sahara. After about an hour of riding, you’ll arrive at your Berber desert camp, where you'll be welcomed with mint tea, enjoy a delicious traditional dinner, and spend the night in a nomadic tent under a sky full of stars.

DAY 3- MERZOUGA VISIT AND DESERT CAMEL EXCURSION

Today is dedicated to discovering the cultural and natural wonders of the Merzouga region. After breakfast, you’ll begin your exploration with a visit to the village of Khamlia, home to a small community of Gnawa musicians originally from sub-Saharan Africa. You’ll enjoy a live performance of traditional Gnawa music and dance, offering insight into a unique part of Moroccan heritage. Then, your driver will take you across the dunes to visit a semi-nomadic Berber family, giving you the chance to sit with them, learn about their desert lifestyle, and ask questions about their traditions and daily life. The hospitality of these families is warm and sincere.

Your tour continues around the dunes of Erg Chebbi, offering dramatic landscapes and panoramic desert views. Around lunchtime, you’ll stop at a local restaurant to try a regional specialty known as “Berber pizza”, a savory, spiced meat-stuffed flatbread baked in clay ovens. After lunch, return to your desert lodge or hotel in Merzouga for a rest and shower. Around 3:00 p.m., you’ll prepare for your second camel trek, riding once again into the dunes to a different desert camp, where you’ll enjoy another magical night with dinner, campfire, music, and stargazing in the heart of the Sahara.

DAY 4 - MERZOUGA TO FES

Wake up early for a once-in-a-lifetime experience—watching the sunrise over the Sahara dunes—a breathtaking moment as the desert transforms in golden hues. After breakfast and a camel ride back to Merzouga, your driver will take you north toward Fes. The journey begins with a drive through Errachidia, then along the lush Ziz Valley, lined with palm trees and fortified ksars, offering plenty of scenic photo stops.

Your route continues to Midelt, nestled at the foot of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you’ll stop for lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll cross through the cedar forests of Azrou, home to Barbary macaque monkeys, and pass through Ifrane, a European-style mountain town known as "the Switzerland of Morocco." By late afternoon or early evening, you’ll arrive in Fes, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation, concluding your unforgettable desert adventure.
