This 9-day private tour from Marrakech offers a complete and immersive journey through Morocco’s imperial cities, ancient history, breathtaking landscapes, and Sahara desert magic—making it ideal for travelers who want to experience the country’s full cultural and natural richness in comfort. You’ll visit iconic sites like the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the Royal Palace and Oudayas Kasbah in Rabat, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, and the medieval medina of Fes with its mosques, madrasas, tanneries, and artisan quarters. Scenic drives take you through the Middle Atlas Mountains, cedar forests of Azrou, and the volcanic plateaus of Midelt before reaching the golden dunes of Merzouga for an unforgettable camel trek and overnight stay in a Berber desert camp. You’ll explore nomadic life, enjoy live Gnawa music, see ancient irrigation systems, and visit spectacular gorges in Todra and Dades. The route continues through Rose Valley, Skoura Oasis, and cinematic Ouarzazate before culminating at the UNESCO-listed Aït Benhaddou and crossing the High Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech. With private transport, expert local guides, carefully selected riads and desert accommodations, this tour is perfect for anyone looking to deeply explore Morocco’s history, landscapes, and traditions in one seamless, enriching experience.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH TO CASABLANCA AND RABAT

Your private driver will pick you up in Marrakech and begin the journey to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city and economic hub. Upon arrival, if time allows, you’ll visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, a modern architectural marvel built on the Atlantic coastline, completed in 1993. The mosque’s prayer hall accommodates 25,000 worshippers, and its vast esplanade holds up to 80,000 more. The complex includes a library, museum, and Koranic school. After the mosque visit, enjoy a scenic drive along the Corniche, Casablanca’s beachside boulevard lined with cafes, restaurants, and Atlantic views. Later, continue to Rabat, the capital city. Visit the Royal Palace Gate, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the historic Kasbah of the Udayas, offering panoramic views of the Bou Regreg River. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then settle into your riad in the heart of Rabat’s medina for the night.

DAY 2: RABAT-MEKNES - VOLUBILIS –FES

After breakfast, depart for Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities founded in the 9th century. Explore its monumental gates such as Bab El Khemis, Bab Mansour, and Bab Berdiène, and visit historical landmarks including the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, the Royal Stables, and the Agdal Basin. Enjoy lunch at a traditional restaurant, then continue to the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, set at the foot of the Jebel Zerhoun hills. The UNESCO-listed site features remarkably preserved mosaics, the Triumphal Arch, the House of Orpheus, and Roman streets that speak to Morocco's pre-Islamic history. After exploring the ruins, continue to Fes, where you’ll check into a charming riad in the old medina.

DAY 3- SIGHTSEEING AND AN HISTORICAL VISIT TO FES.

Meet your licensed local guide at 9:30 a.m. for a comprehensive tour of Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural capital. Begin with a visit to the Royal Palace gates, followed by a walk through the historic Jewish quarter (Mellah). Then stop at a pottery cooperative to learn about the city’s famed blue-and-white ceramics. From there, explore the UNESCO-listed Fes el-Bali medina, starting with the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Zaouia of Moulay Idriss II, the Nejjarine Fountain, and the ancient Al-Qarawiyyin University, founded in 859 AD. Discover the Andalusian Quarter and observe the fascinating leather-dyeing process at the Chouara Tanneries. In the afternoon, enjoy a panoramic view of the city before returning to your riad for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4 - FES –IFRAN-THE CEDAR FOREST- MIDELT

Depart Fes around 9:00 a.m., heading south toward Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and cleanliness. Then continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop in the Cedar Forest of Azrou, home to Barbary macaques and a wide range of bird species. Keep an eye out for cedar trees, wild orchids, and panoramic mountain views. Afterward, travel through dramatic volcanic landscapes with crater lakes known as aguelmams, and enjoy frequent photo stops. Arrive in Midelt, a tranquil town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas ranges. Check into your hotel and enjoy a peaceful evening.

DAY 5 - MIDELT- ERFOUD - MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, depart for the desert via the dramatic Ziz Valley, where the Oued Ziz and Oued Rheris rivers sustain lush date palm groves in a semi-arid landscape. Continue through Erfoud, known for its fossil quarries and date festival, and visit a local fossil museum if interested. Then pass through Rissani, the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty and a key stop on ancient trans-Saharan caravan routes. Arrive at Merzouga, on the edge of the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes, and check into a hotel overlooking the dunes. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and a restful night before your desert adventure begins.

DAY 6 - A 4WD TOUR AROUND THE DESERT

After breakfast, begin a 4WD tour around the desert, starting with a visit to the Khamlia village, where you’ll experience live Gnawa music performed by descendants of West African slaves. Continue across the dunes to visit semi-nomadic Berber families living in tents, offering a rare glimpse into desert life. Enjoy tea with the locals, visit Dayet Sriji Lake (a seasonal salt lake with flamingos), and explore the Hamada—a rocky desert home to reptiles and small mammals. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant and try Berber pizza. By late afternoon, return to the hotel to relax before mounting your camel for a sunset trek into the Sahara. Arrive at your desert camp, enjoy dinner, music, and storytelling around a campfire, and sleep in a traditional nomadic tent under the stars.

DAY 7 - MERZOUGA-TINJDAD-TINGHIR-DADES GORGES

Wake early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, then return to the hotel by camel for breakfast and a refreshing shower. Depart Merzouga and drive through Tinjdad and Jerf, where you can observe the ancient Khettara irrigation system. Visit the impressive Todra Gorge, a canyon with towering rock walls and a flowing stream, perfect for walking or rock climbing. Enjoy lunch in or near the gorge before continuing to Dades Valley, known as the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. From Boumalne Dades, travel through dramatic landscapes to reach your hotel nestled near the Dades Gorges. Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 8 - DADES VALLEY –NOMADS IN CAVES-ROSE VALLEY- SKOURA-OURZAZATE

After breakfast, take an off-road excursion to visit nomadic families living in caves, offering a humbling cultural experience. Continue through the Rose Valley to see local cooperatives producing rose water and oils. Then drive through the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to reach Skoura, a lush palm oasis known for its 12th-century Kasbah Amridil. Later in the day, arrive in Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert and home to several film studios. Check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.

DAY 9 - OURZAZATE- AITBENHADDOU - TIZI N TICHKA - MARRAKECH.

Start the final day with a visit to Kasbah Taourirt, once a grand residence of the Glaoui family. Optionally visit a film studio or cinema museum. Then travel to Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar and one of Morocco’s most impressive fortified villages, famous for films like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. Explore the kasbah and enjoy lunch with views of the site. Afterward, begin your journey back to Marrakech via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m), stopping for scenic views and rest breaks along the way.
