DAY 1 – FES TO MERZOUGA ERG CHEBBI
Fes to Merzouga via Azrou, Cedar Forests and Ziz valley Gorges. Your driver will meet you at your hotel to transport you to the desert village of Merzouga via Azrou, the cedar forests and Ziz Gorges. This is an interesting route and you can stop for lunch in a Berber café. Arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes and check into a hotel where you can safely wander into the immediate desert to watch the sunset.
DAY 2 – MERZOUGA ERG CHEBBI TOUR
In the morning, we start our tour around the dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will visit a Berber house and listen to some Gnawa music; originally from Ghana, and Sudan. We will visit some deserted mines, Berber nomads and oasis of palm trees. For lunch we will head back to Merzouga. After relaxing for a time we will go for the camels that are waiting to take us on an adventure in the sand dunes. We will spend the night in an equipped camp with drums music in the middle of the Sahara, which is a great opportunity to take lovely pictures of the sunset and sunrise. When we arrive to the camp, we climb the high dunes to see the sunset and spend the night in nomad tents.
DAY 3 – MERZOUGA ERG CHEBBI TO DADES GORGES
Waking up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes, you will make your way back to Merzouga on your camels. After breakfast, as you start travelling to Erfoud, you set out behind the High Atlas Mountains on route to the Todra Gorges, passing by nomad people along the way. You will take a walk up in the towering Todra Gorges (985 feet high). The picturesque river valleys make for a beautiful journey towards the southeast of Morocco. Then continue your journey towards another impressive Gorges Dades passing by strange rock creations of Tamnalt Hills. Overnight in the heart of Dades Gorges.
DAY 4 – DADES GORGES TO MARRAKECH
After breakfast, you begin your day’s journey towards Ouarzazate via the High Atlas Mountains. Take off road about 25 km on your 4×4, you will discover nomad life in caves before arriving in the the centre of Moroccan roses and rose products. Continue your trip via the Road of One Thousand Kasbahs. You will pass by the Skoura palm oasis just before arriving in Ouarzazate. Here, you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. In typical Moroccan fashion, the true treasures must be searched out and discovered… usually off the beaten path. In actuality, this setting has been used for more films than any other location in Morocco, including Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, and recently The Gladiator. In the afternoon, you will be dropped off at your riad/hotel.
